Inverter Spot Welder

What is an inverter spot welder? What do you use an inverter welder for?

An inverter welder is a relatively new innovative type of welder that has a host of advantages when compared to conventional welders that most repaires are accustomed to.

Inverter welders use sophisticated silicon based technology as compared with heavy copper/aluminum transformers and rectifiers seen in traditional welders.  an inverter welder will better accept the impure power from generators than conventional welders and this will result in faster jobs and fewer bad welds.

The insurance & repair industry requires them to be used on the high strength steels that are used in the modern cars. They are pricey but they are a must.

MIG welding is an arc welding process in which a continuous solid wire electrode is fed through a welding gun and into the weld pool, joining the two base materials together. A shielding gas is also sent through the welding gun and protects the weld pool from contamination. In fact, MIG stands for "Metal Inert Gas." The technical name for it is "Gas Metal Arc Welding"

A car hoist is a device that is used to raise a car up to allow access to underneath the vehicle. Commonly available in one-, two- and four-post styles, a car hoist is often an invaluable tool when working on the bottom of a vehicle or at chest height. There are hydraulic versions of the car hoist, however, the electric models are the most commonly used types in work shops.

Models of the hoist are available in both ramp and chassis mount designs, with each offering its own positive and negative aspects with the chassis mount design offering the most versatility and access to most vehicles.

Car Hoist

By using the car hoist to raise the car, access to chassis, exhaust and suspension components is placed within easy reach for the repairer. The hoist is a heavy-duty device that commonly reaches under the car and connects to specific points on the vehicle's chassis to facilitate supporting the car when raised into the air. By activating an electric motor, the hoist is raised into the air by use of a threaded rod, or a hydraulic pump with hydraulic cylinders.

Plasma cutters work by sending an electric arc through a gas that is passing through a constricted opening.  The gas can be shop air, nitrogen, argon, oxygen. etc. This elevates the temperature of the gas to the point that it enters a 4th state of matter.  We all are familiar with the first three: i.e., solid, liquid, and gas.   Scientists call this additional state plasma.  As the metal being cut is part of the circuit, the electrical conductivity of the plasma causes the arc to transfer to the work.

The restricted opening (nozzle) the gas passes through causes it to squeeze by at a high speed, like air passing through a venturi in a carburetor.    This high speed gas cuts through the molten metal.  The gas is also directed around the perimeter of the cutting area to shield the cut.

Plasma Cutter

In many of today's better plasma cutters, a pilot arc between the electrode and nozzle is used to ionize the gas and initially generate the plasma prior to the arc transfer.
